Episode 39: Ballet Student swaps with Country Apple Farmer

Samuel, 10, is a student at the National Ballet School in Montreal. Samuel attends the ballet school year round and spends half of his day in dance class! For Samuel, dancing is not only fun, but also a step towards a potential future career. There is a lot of hard work and dedication involved in becoming a dancer, but Samuel says he enjoys every moment of it. On the flip side, Stefan, 11, lives out in the country in Hemmingford, Quebec. Stefan spends a lot of his time helping out on his family’s pick your own apple farm. Between working at the market, taking customers out to pick apples, acting as an “apple expert” and doing cash out – there is never a dull moment! For Stefan there is always lots of work to be done during apple season, but also lots of perks to enjoy as well.

THE SWAP: Watch as Samuel tries helping out at the farm during apple season, while Stefan heads off to the world of discipline and good posture. Samuel will have to learn about all the different types of apples, while Stefan tires to master the 5 ballet positions. Later on, Samuel will try to take over Stefan’s responsibilities at the pick your own farm, while Stefan will try and replace Samuel in a ballet performance! Experience the adventure as both boys learn about the hard work involved in each other’s lifestyle, while having tons of fun along the way.

SWAPPERS JOURNAL - SAMUEL

The first challenge was the coolest thing because in learning to recognize the apples I can now test my family every time we go to the market. I was most scared at the bonfire the enormous flames seemed wild and uncontrolled. I was most proud of myself when I successfully completed my first challenge, because it was the first one and I had to remember everything by myself. It was a pleasure working with you. I hope to see you guys again, and often.

SWAPPERS JOURNAL - STEFAN

My SWAP experience was a big change in my life. The day I went back to school, my sister told everybody about it. I did not care because it was fun to try something new. The coolest thing that happened during my SWAP experience was to try a private school because I might be going to one next year and also seeing Montréal from the mountaintop.
The thing that was the most unfamiliar was to try new foods because we usually cook our meat on the barbecue and eat it. I was mostly proud of myself when I performed in front of the whole school. The thing I will always remember is that I was a mini movie star.

The message I have for the crew is "Let's do it again!"
