Episode 38: Triathlete swaps with Ice Cream Entrepreneur

Celeste, 13, is an accomplished triathlete from Brampton, ON, who competes at provincial levels! With the Olympics in her sights, she is certainly dedicated to training all year round. Jeff, 13, is from Bloomfield, in Prince Edward County, where he works for “Slickers Ice Cream,” a local ice cream manufacturer. He helps pick berries, make ice cream, and deal with customers.

THE SWAP: Watch as Celeste scoops for crowds of tourists, picks her own ingredients, learns to make ice cream, invents her own flavor and pitches it to the local hot spot, the Waupoos Marina. Will her flavour be good enough to sell? Meanwhile, Jeff will be training hard for the Maple Lodge Farms Wasaga Beach “Kids of Steel” Triathlon. He will be learning to bike, run and swim his way to the finish line, while trying healthy foods and protein shakes. Will he finish the race?

SWAPPERS JOURNAL - CELESTE

My SWAP gave me a different perspective on how other kids live, and what jobs they have. The most interesting thing that happened to me during my SWAP was that I got to make my own ice cream and sell it to people! I was most proud when my ice cream was a success. Being on TV was a lot o fun but hard work. Thanks for being the best crew ever! I had lots of fun!

SWAPPERS JOURNAL - JEFF

My SWAP experience was an unforgettable one. I had fun doing all the stuff that I did and it was great meeting all the people including Celeste’s family. The coolest thing on my SWAP was doing the triathlon because it was a new experience and I had never done it before. When I did the triathlon I felt kind of nervous and I didn’t know if I was going to do it or not but in the end I felt proud because I finished. I was most scared right before the Triathlon. I was freaking out because I didn’t know what to expect and I was confused because I didn’t know where to go. The moment I was most proud of myself was at the end of the triathlon because I did it and it was a new experience and I had never done it before.
