Episode 35: East Coast Marine Enthusiast swaps with Southern Ontario Power Cheerleader

Megan (13) lives in London, ON. She was recruited 2 years ago by the Vipers Power Cheerleading team after she was spotted doing amazing tumbling in gymnastics. This sport takes a lot of discipline: not only does Megan need to wow with her acrobatics, but she also needs to look the part and charm the judges. Her team trains year round to compete at tournaments and perform at competitions and her goal is to compete at the University level. Thirteen year-old Robin from St. Andrews, NB loves and lives with animals. Her family has 5 dogs and Robin helps out at both the local veterinarian and aquarium. At the aquarium she helps prepare food, assist guests and help out on tours. The area is home to many whales and other incredible marine life -- and Robin can walk down to the wharf or beach and explore any time she wants.

THE SWAP: Megan, who has never been outside of Ontario, travels to New Brunswick to experience learning about marine life, working at an aquarium, and the ultimate test: snorkeling in the icy cold Bay of Fundy to find crabs! Meanwhile, Robin journeys to Southern Ontario for the first time. Robin, who previously thought cheerleading involved pom-poms and yells, attends a power cheerleading camp and attempts stunts, dance choreography, pyramids and putting them all together in a routine!

SWAPPERS JOURNAL - MEGAN

The most interesting thing that happened during my SWAP was getting to go snorkeling. During the SWAP I was most scared about was cutting up the fish. I thought it was gross, and it smelt really bad. I was most proud of myself after snorkeling in the freeeeeeeeezing cold water. I would just really like to say thanks SO much for everything. I know it was really stressful for you guys; you still made it the best. You let Robin and I enjoy a lifetime experience. I appreciate everything you’ve done for me… Thanks again, good luck with the rest of the show!

SWAPPERS JOURNAL - ROBIN

I was most scared when a top (the girl on top of the stunt) did a 360-degree turn in the air and I had to catch her. I was afraid I was going to drop her. During my SWAP I was most proud when I learned the cheer routines and got to perform. All the coaches were telling me that I was doing great and it felt really good. The coolest thing that happened to me during my SWAP was when three coaches lifted me up really high. I was happy that I didn’t fall!
