Episode 26: Clown swaps with Go-Karter

Mark (13) has a unique hobby: he’s a clown! Mark is the youngest Clown Alley member in Southern Ontario and aspires to entertain kids and adults alike for a living. His alter-clown-ego "Checkmark Clown," can twist incredible balloon animals, even behind his back! Jason, also 13, craves speed. His entire family is into cars and car racing and they attend every racing event they can. He has his very own go-kart that he maintains entirely on his own.

The Swap: Watch as Mark experiences the world of go-kart racing and faces the challenges of successfully maintaining his vehicle, learning the rules of the road....each skill building towards the big race! On the flip side, Jason hones his humour skills and learns how difficult clowning can be. He faces the challenges of twisting a balloon animal, getting into full costume including full makeup, all in preparation for the main event: entertaining a group of kids at a clown party!

SWAPPER JOURNAL - JASON

"When I had to finally perform as a clown in front of a room full of children and remember my lines to the act I played with Dotsy the clown who was also my instructor during the swap.
The coolest thing during the swap was when I actually looked in the mirror and didn't recognize myself because I was really a clown. The thing I remember most about my swap is the apprehension I felt before I started my weekend, meeting Marks parents who were very nice, and actually being filmed as I did my clown training. We would have to stop often because it was distracting and sometimes we had to laugh.
Being on T.V. has been a real eye opener, I never realized how hard it would be and how much thought and planning has to go into each episode. But I think I was lucky because the Director and Crew were really cool and we had a lot of fun doing it."

SWAPPER JOURNAL – MARK

"The most interesting thing that I did on the swap was when they hooked the helmet cam up and later I got to see the footage that it recorded. The coolest thing that happened on the swap was when I got to race the kart around the track. The one thing I will remember the most was when Michael was driving on my rear bumper and bumping me from behind to show me aggressive driving. It was really tiring and exhausting but it was a lot of fun."
