Episode 24: Champion Ski Racer swaps with Karate Kid

Tara is a champion ski racer residing in Kitchener, ON. Tara competes provincially at an advanced club level. There is no stopping this 13 year old -- she has the fastest time of anyone on her team! On the flip side, 14 year-old Melissa is competitive karate student from Richmond Hill. Both Melissa and her brothers compete as a team provincially and placed first at finals last year. Melissa plans on pursuing the sport competitively right up into adulthood; she is well on her way to becoming a karate master!

The Swap: Watch as Melissa who has only skied a few times, is thrown into the world of downhill ski racing! She will have to wax her own skis, train with the ski team, and eventually compete in an actual times ski race. Meanwhile, Tara Benn, who has never tried karate, will have to learn how to spar, try her hand at "Bo" and enter a real karate competition. Watch as these two champions try to their hand at a new craft…will they both still come out on top?

SWAPPER JOURNAL: MELISSA

"The coolest thing that happened to me was when I was skiing in the competition and I did two 360 degrees spins on my bum when I fell. That was really funny and awesome when I saw it on Mr. Ben’s video camera. I was lucky that I didn’t get hurt."
"I want to say "thanks SO much" to the crew, you guys are so awesome! A special thank you to: the directors, Paul and Daniel, for having so much patience with me, the camera dude, Mark (I hope you got that coffee!), the most wicked sound guy ever – Yogi bear Brendan and the PA Kirsten. Also a BIG thank you to every one involved in making this possible at Swap TV, every one at Richmond Hill Karate and Fitness Centre and at Mount Chicopee for supporting this SWAP."

SWAPPER JOURNAL TARA

"My swap experience was great! It was fun trying out new things. I think it made me more outgoing. I was most proud of myself when the competition was done because I was like, "wow! I survived."
