Episode 23: Sumo Robot Creator swaps with Champion Wrestler

Dong Yi, a Scarborough native, has spent countless hours working on weekends and after school on her robot projects. Dong Yi’s creations have made it all the way to renowned competitions such as Skills Canada. One of her favourite creations, the "Plexi Princess", won awards across the province for its endurance in sumo robot competitions. Meanwhile, Stephanie from Orillia trains almost every day in her sport: Contact Wrestling. Stephanie has ranked National Canadian champion two years in a row!

The Swap: It’s "Battle Bots" meets the "WWF" -- but for kids! Who will remain standing: the robot or the wrestler? Watch as Dong Yi attempts her own coordination in the ring, while Stephanie must sit back and watch her creation take the challenge!

SWAPPER JOURNAL – DONG YI

Switching lives for those two days was awesome. I got to experience being in a real competition ring without having to go through months of training beforehand. All I had was the 1-day crash course the previous day. I got two surprises that day. One was that I got to shake hands with a former Olympic wrestler – Ainsley Robinson. The other was that I somehow got to take a medal home with me. At the beginning I was a bit nervous because I knew I couldn’t do anything close to a cartwheel. I also felt lost at times at the competition site because I never knew what time I was on. I was really proud of myself the time I managed to flip from belly on the floor to being in control. I just didn’t have enough muscle to turning my opponent (Megan) on her back.
